Three notes for the presentation of the exhibition “Diógenes Electrónico” (Electronic Diogenes) at Galería Macchina of Escuela de Arte UC.
The panel was supposed to consist on three elderly people (including myself) discussing The Teaching of Media Arts within a university context. I don´t really care about “Media Arts” or “New Media” for that matter; so mainly the notes are about the issue of disciplinary boundaries within the Arts, the absurdity of a “Media Arts” discipline (what is oil painting then… unmedia art?) and how -particularly after the Arab Spring, the question is about the role of artists, as artists, within a mediated context where the traditional artistic institutions seem overrun by the social reality in which they are situated.
